Ray Media Server for Dynamic IP

Postby dymfg » Thu Feb 26, 2009 4:41 pm

FOR  WINDOWS USERS WHO HAVE A DYNAMIC IP

For dynamic IP users it would be great if the Ray Media Base settings IP field could take a domain name.
The ? (help) says it can but the field is only good for 15 characters max and I am pretty sure the code could not handle it right now.
Could this and the the  red5-web.properties files for all the Web Apps in RMS be changed to handle domain names ?
If this is done then us users running from home with a dynamic IP can get RMS to work outside of the LAN.

If any of you could point me in the right direction I could probably make the changes to the code myself

Thanks in advance

You can add the domain in the red5-web.properties.

This should be possible.

Hi Mr Administrator,

I have checked some of your answers and they do not seem to be correct.
I have tried putting in a domain into the web4-properties. IT DOES NOT WORK.
Have you tried it ???

The code has to be modified to check whether it is an IP or a domain name.
If it is a domain then gethostbyname to get the IP.
In the Ray Base page the user CANNOT input a domain.

Please give us some replies that make sense instead of "it should work" if you have not tested it yourself

Thanks for your time

I have not checked this. Thats why my reply was "it should work".

Plz. note that you are dealing with RED 5 server and Not PHP.

So the function gethostbyname will not work there.
